Former Dundee United manager Jackie McNamara wants to repeat the feat of Derek Adams by being a success in English football after leaving the Scottish Premiership.
McNamara, who left Tannadice at the end of September to eventually be replaced by Mixu Paatelainen, has wasted little time in getting back into management.
He has been appointed gaffer of English League Two side York City and will be assisted by his Tannadice number two Simon Donnelly.
McNamara will lead the Minstermen, who sit third bottom of their division, for the first time on Saturday in the FA Cup first round tie at Accrington Stanley.
After his unveiling at Bootham Crescent, McNamara said: “I am delighted to be back in.
“It is a great challenge and a fresh start for me down in England.
“I was fortunate to have played in England as a player, as was Simon, so we know what it’s about.
“Also, you look at what Derek Adams has achieved at Plymouth Argyle (they lead League Two) after leaving Ross County and see that Scots managers can do well.
“I want to take the club forward like Derek has done at Plymouth.
“I was open-mined coming down here but I am looking forward to it.
“I think there are two sides to this going forward.
“We want to kick on up the league and there is a big FA Cup tie on Sunday against Accrington Stanley.
“It’s a tough start but one I will look forward to.
“I am moving down to York and it is a lovely part of the world.”
