Gunning in running for Dundee United’s cup clash with Partick Thistle
ByIan Roache
Dundee United will have central defender Gavin Gunning available for their Scottish League Cup third round tie against Partick Thistle later this month.
The Irishman was hit with a three-game ban by the SFA disciplinary panel last week after it was ruled that he kicked out at Celtic player Virgil van Dijk during the Premiership match between the sides at Tannadice.
Gunning was expected to miss United’s fixtures against Ross County (league) this Sunday, Motherwell (league) the following weekend then Partick (League Cup) on the 25th.
However, as the third part of the ban is under the totting-up procedure and has to be served in the league, Gunning will be available for the Jags game but will be banned for the Premiership trip to Hearts on the 28th.
