Bookies suspend betting on John Hughes becoming the next Dundee United manager

Ladbrokes have suspended betting on John Hughes becoming the next Dundee United manager after receiving a flurry of wagers from punters.

The Inverness managers odds had been cut from 25/1 to odds-on after sustained support.

St Johnstone boss Tommy Wright had been the firm’s recent 4/6 favourite but he was eased out to 2/1 before the bookies decided to take a break.

David Macdonald of Ladbrokes said: “The early money had been for Tommy Wright but in next to no time there’s been a flurry of support for John Hughes. He’s been supported at all prices down from 25/1 so we’ve decided to take a breather and wait for this one to settle down.”
