Former Motherwell and Rangers boss Stuart McCall has thrown his hat in the ring to become the next Dundee United manager.
The 51-year-old, who is part of Gordon Strachan’s coaching staff with Scotland, has been without a club job since leaving Ibrox in the summer.
He has ruled out a return to Motherwell but is thought to be among those under consideration by the United hierarchy, with the likes of Mixu Paatelainen, John Hughes and Michael O’Neill also linked to the post.
Asked about the Tannadice vacancy, he said: “That might be one of interest to me.
“They are a bigger club (than Motherwell) in terms of the fanbase and certainly have a bigger budget third biggest in Scotland, I think.
“They have a good history, have been in a couple of Scottish Cup finals of late and should be challenging for the European spots.”
O’Neill has played down the likelihood of returning to Tannadice.
The Northern Ireland manager says he is focusing solely on leading them to their first major finals in 30 years.
Victory for O’Neill’s side at home to Greece next Thursday will see the Irish seal an automatic qualifying place for the Euro 2016 finals in France.
And O’Neill, who played for United between 1989 and 1993, admitted being on the cusp of ending his country’s long wait for a return to the big stage means he has no desire to vacate his current position.
