Dundee United manager Jackie McNamara looks set to grant Mark Wilson his wish by keeping him at Tannadice.
The player had expressed a desire to stay with the Tangerines after his current deal ends in January.
That is also a bit of business McNamara would like to get done.
Asked if he would be keen to hang on to Wilson for the rest of the season, McNamara said: “Yeah, I would. He is a player whom I admire and that is why I brought him here.
“He has experience and has been excellent for us. His calmness, knowledge and distribution have all been put to good use.
“I think that Mark will help Keith Watson, too, because Keith has not really had competition in the right-back role.
“Mark has had a lot of problems with injuries as we all know but he has not missed a day’s training since coming here and has been great when called upon.
“I have had no problem with him at all and he is a great professional.”
McNamara had words of encouragement for summer signing Calum Butcher.
The central defender has been on the fringes of late and has not started a game for United since September.
McNamara said: “I have spoken to Calum and he knows he is in my plans.
“His attitude since he came here has been first class.
“What happened to him was unfortunate because he would have played in the Ross County game but got ill and John Souttar came in at centre-half and did well.
“Calum actually hasn’t done anything wrong to be out of the team but he will just have to wait for his chance now.”
