Dundee United manager Jackie McNamara breathed a sigh of relief as the transfer window slammed shut in England.
That meant he had held on to his bright young stars despite Sunderland making a bid for John Souttar and showing an interest in Ryan Gauld.
Also, no offer for Gary Mackay-Steven was forthcoming as the clock ticked by on Monday night, despite the player having been watched more than once by Blackburn Rovers.
As someone who wants as many selection options as possible, McNamara was understandably pleased with that outcome.
“It’s good that the transfer window is closed,” declared McNamara, who saw a bid of £400,000 plus from the Black Cats for 16-year-old Souttar knocked back by chairman Stephen Thompson and his directors at the weekend.
“Things will settle down now well at least for the next few months! So we can all fully focus on the job in hand.
“It’s a compliment in a way that there is interest in your players. Sometimes it can be a good thing to have players linked because it shows we are doing things properly if other clubs are interested in your players.
Having fully reflected on the narrow defeat to Celtic, the United boss wants particular improvement in one area of his team’s play.
He said: “I think there’s still a great deal more to come in our attacking play in terms of goals.
“We saw what we were capable of in the St Johnstone game and it’s consistency that we’re obviously looking for.”
Ryan Dow, meanwhile, is still nursing a groin injury but could be available for United’s next game up at Ross County a week on Sunday.
