Dundee United boss Jackie McNamara says Nadir Ciftci could yet feature against Inverness this weekend, although Tannadice team-mate Mark Wilson looks set for a short stint on the sidelines.
The striker was forced off just before half-time of Sunday’s 2-2 home draw with Hibs due to a groin strain and Tangerines fans could have been forgiven for fearing the worst.
But the 21-year-old’s injury is not as bad as first feared, with McNamara giving the forward every opportunity to prove his fitness ahead of Sunday’s trip to the Highlands.
“Nadir is hopefully not as bad as we first thought,” the United boss said. “We’ll see how things go but he might be in with an outside chance of making Sunday’s game up in Inverness, which would be a bonus.”
Despite the positive news in relation to Ciftci, full-back Wilson has been ruled out of the game up at the Tulloch Caledonian Stadium after tearing a stomach muscle.
The defender failed to reappear after the interval against Hibs and will not be risked against Inverness.
“At the moment, he looks like he could be out for a couple of weeks,” McNamara said.
Mark Millar won’t be returning to Tannadice this season, as it was confirmed that his loan to Falkirk has been extended through to the summer.
