Jackie McNamara says winning the League Cup as Dundee United manager would surpass all his achievements as a player with Celtic.
McNamara won four league titles, three Scottish Cups and three League Cups in a long and illustrious spell in green and white.
But, as he gets ready to lead out United against the Hoops at Hampden on Sunday, he says the Tangerines upsetting the odds would be his finest moment.
“I think that’s because managing is so different from playing,” he said.
“Now, if you had asked me if I would rather be playing on Sunday than on the touchline then I would, 100%, rather be playing.
“But this is the next best thing to playing and I will be kicking every ball, challenging every decision.
“Being a manager is tougher than playing because you are putting so much into it.
“You have the sleepless nights and then after you do get to sleep you wake up thinking about formations and the like.
“After what happened last Sunday, I have been thinking about what players we have available and that’s just the job.
“You never stop, even after you go home.
“Your mind is constantly active, whereas when you are playing you are mainly thinking about your own job.
“So I hope all that explains why it would be very special on Sunday to experience these moments with the players.
“It would be fantastic for me personally but, to be honest, I don’t see it in that way.
“I see it as wanting the players to be part of history. I know it’s a great feeling.
“We are going into this match as massive underdogs but the players now have a chance to go down in the history books as cup winners.”
