Inverness CT 1 Dundee United 1: Points shared in Highlands
ByCraig Smith
Dundee United had to settle for a share of the spoils in Inverness as the teams fought out a 1-1 draw.
Billy McKay gave Caley a fifth-minute lead, but United hit back within four minutes when Keith Watson bulleted a header beyond keeper Dean Brill.
A draw was probably a fair result on balance, although both sides will feel frustrated that they could not secure all three points from what was an entertaining encounter.
United twice hit the woodwork in the game, with Brian Graham hitting the post in the first half before Chris Erskine saw a second-half effort also strike an upright.
They also had a penalty claim waved away after Gary Mackay-Steven went down under a Gary Warren challenge.
But the hosts also saw a second-half penalty from Nick Ross saved brilliantly by United keeper Rado Cierzniak.
The point means that United stay in fourth spot, while Inverness sit just behind them in fifth.
One sour point for United was the fact that striker Graham had to be stretchered off early in the second half, although the club will be hoping his ankle injury is not as bad as first feared. For full match coverage, see Monday’s Courier or try our digital edition.
