Ryan Dow has revealed he has never had it so good in his career and is desperate to stay at Dundee United.
Dow’s Tannadice contract runs out in the summer and talks regarding a new deal are ongoing with manager Jackie McNamara.
He has, however, expressed confidence that the business will be concluded soon, with both player and club keen to stay united.
Breaking off from preparing for tonight’s home clash agains Inverness Caley Thistle, the frontman said: “Talks are ongoing between my agent and the gaffer so hopefully it will all get sorted quite soon.
“It will happen, I am sure, sometime in the next few weeks.
“This is definitely the most I have enjoyed my football. The team is on a good run and it’s great to be starting games and feeling that I am playing well.
“I have waited a while for this. That was down to different circumstances in the past maybe I hadn’t played that well or not been given a chance.
“Now, though, I have been given a run of games by the gaffer. I have really appreciated that and hopefully I have shown people what I can offer the team. I also still think there is more to come from me.
“The manager has shown he believes in me by giving me these opportunities. I am grateful to him.”
With most of the attention this season having been focused on younger colleagues Ryan Gauld, John Souttar and Andy Robertson, Dow has just got on with the job of making himself an integral part of McNamara’s plans.
He was in the thick of it again on Friday night, helping to set up United’s two goals against Hearts but insisted he is happy to stay out of the spotlight.
“As long as I feel I am playing well, the gaffer agrees and we are winning then I don’t bother who is getting the attention,” added Dow.
“The type of person I am means that I am pleased as long as I am in the team and United are picking up victories. That’s what matters to me.
“We have a lot of quality players in the forward positions and we all seem to blend together well.
“It doesn’t seem to matter what the mix is, be it me, Ryan (Gauld), Stu (Armstrong), GMS (Mackay-Steven), Nadir (Ciftci), big Brian (Graham) or Farid (El Alagui).
“We can all interchange and feel comfortable around one another. There is a real understanding between the lot of us.”
Dow is wary of an Inverness team that was hammered 5-0 in the William Hill Scottish Cup quarter-finals earlier this month.
Recalling that rout, Dow said: “We got a couple of quick goals and then they got a man sent off so we had the initiative early on.
“This time it will be really tough because they might be out for a wee bit of revenge for that cup defeat.
“I watched the highlights of their win over Partick Thistle on Saturday and that was great result for them, one that will have given them confidence.
“But we have a lot to play for in what’s left of the season. It is going to be exciting, especially given the way we are performing.
“If we keep going like this, we can maybe catch Motherwell and Aberdeen. If they slip up then we need to be ready to pounce.”
