Cardiff City boss tries to avoid unsettling ‘good friends’ at Dundee United
ByThe Courier Reporter
Cardiff City boss Malky Mackay has refused to elaborate on any interest in Dundee United players.
Mackay knows the Tannadice management team of Jackie McNamara, Simon Donnelly and Darren Jackson from their days at Celtic, and his scout Tommy Johnson was at Tannadice on Saturday as United swept aside Hearts 4-1.
He said: “I am not going to comment on Dundee United because there are a couple of good friends of mine that are the manager and assistant manager.
“But I would absolutely not rule out going for a Scot. I’ve had David Marshall, Kevin NcNaughton, Don Cowie and Craig Conway all in my group down here over the last few years.
“I think the youngsters coming through now have better technique as far as some of them are concerned.
“Surely it’s only good for Scottish football that we’re now beginning to have youngsters coming through with real technique.”
United’s crop of young stars have been the subject of interest from scouts from home and abroad.
