Dundee United chairman Stephen Thompson says he’s prepared to wait to get the right manager for the club.
After Jackie McNamara was relieved of his duties, United have begun the search for a new boss with a long list of potential candidates already being discussed among the club’s fans.
But Thompson today said he has no single person in mind and the club will not be rushed into finding a replacement despite a crucial bottom-of-the-table clash coming up this weekend against Partick Thistle.
Describing the events that led to McNamara’s departure Thompson said: “The board had been discussing it for some time where we were as a club and where we think we should be.
“It was very, very hard on a personal level because as a chairman you build up a relationship with the manager.
“But as a board we decided it was the right thing for the club.”
And, discussing the search for a new boss, Thompson added: “We have as a club have an idea of what we’re looking for.
“I do believe this club’s too big for a first managerial appointment they should have managed before they come here.”
Vowing the club will do “whatever it takes”, Thompson added: “We went through a thorough process with Jackie and we’re going to do the same again.
“There’s been a lot of emotion going around and you’ve got to think rationally and calmly and get the right person in here to run what we believe is a great opportunity for somebody.”
