The tackle which sidelined Simon Lappin for over a month was an opportunity for Ryan McGowan to have a “free shot”, according to the St Johnstone midfielder.
But the former Norwich City man doesn’t hold a grudge against the Dundee United defender.
Lappin admitted he feared that the touchline incident in the Tayside derby at Tannadice would end his season.
But the injured knee didn’t require an operation, and he’s back available for Saints’ weekend clash with Hamilton Accies.
Since Lappin has been out of action, McGowan has picked up a red card for a tackle on Celtic’s Liam Henderson that provoked strong words form Parkhead boss Ronny Deila.
But the Perth player hasn’t bothered thinking about whether there was any malice in the Australian’s intentions back in February.
The 32-year-old’s sole focus is helping Saints clinch their place in the Premiership top six.
“It happens, it’s part and parcel of the game,” he insisted.
“It was maybe a chance to get a free shot in, but it’s gone now.
“I don’t have any problem with Ryan McGowan, I couldn’t care less.
“I’m back now and that’s all that matters.”
Lappin has been able to put his own injury in perspective, even through the frustration of missing four matches.
“Four weeks isn’t much when you look at what guys like Tam Scobbie and Steven MacLean have been through this season,” he pointed out.
“They were out for months so I got off lightly.
“At the time I was worried it might have been the end of my season and waiting for the scan was a bit anxious.
“I was thinking that it might have needed surgery, but thankfully it didn’t.
“I started training again last week, it’s great to be back again.
“We thought it would be four to six weeks after the scan so I was positive it would be the month rather than longer.
“So I’m back on schedule.”
Saints have only lost once in Lappin’s absence, so he isn’t taking an instant recall for granted.
He said: “I missed a few games and the lads have been doing well.
“The Partick match aside, we have been winning matches and the boys are playing well.
“So I’ll probably have to be patient to get back in.
“The manager knows I’m fit and ready to go, but if I have to bide my time that’s how football works.
“I’m just glad I’m back to play a part between now and the end of the season.”
