Dundee United 1 Aberdeen 0 : Tangerines triumph over Dons
ByNeil Robertson
Dundee United secured a narrow win over Aberdeen at Tannadice with the victory taking them above St Johnstone into fourth place in the Premiership table.
The result also extinguished the Dons’ slim chances of winning the league title and Celtic are now confirmed as champions.
Derek McInnes’s side made the better start to the game with United goalie Rado Cierzniak having to pull off a superb save to keep out an Adam Rooney header.
However, the Tangerines stormed into the lead in the 13th minute.
Robbie Muirhead ran through onto a sublime ball over the top of the Aberdeen defence from John Souttar with the striker keeping calm to fire past the exposed Dons keeper Scott Brown for his first goal for the club.
Muirhead had another great opportunity at the start of the second half when the ball broke into his path inside the Aberdeen penalty area but Brown produced a superb diving save to deny the front man.
The Dons then desperately threw everything at United with Cierzniak twice denying Rooney.
However, the Tangerines held on to take all three points.
