Paul Dixon’s story of cup heartache at Dundee United could yet have a happy ending.
The full-back missed the Tangerines’ Scottish Cup triumph against Ross County in 2010 through injury.
After heading south to Huddersfield, the Scotland international is on the verge of a return to Tannadice, and could finally get his chance to win a national trophy at Hampden with his boyhood team in March’s League Cup final against Celtic.
As expected, Dixon has been released by Huddersfield, and United are the front-runners to snap him up before today’s transfer deadline.
Meanwhile, sources in Glasgow have suggested that Celtic are unlikely to test Stephen Thompson’s resolve with another bid for Stuart Armstrong.
Gary Mackay-Steven though is a more realistic departure to Parkhead.
