Dundee United duo Gary Mackay-Steven and Stuart Armstrong will be vying for PFA Scotland’s young player of the year award after a four-man shortlist was announced.
The United pair will compete for the prize with Celtic midfielder Victor Wanyama and Hibs striker Leigh Griffiths after the quartet were recognised for their efforts this season.
The person who will succeed last year’s winner, Celtic winger James Forrest, will be named at an awards ceremony in Glasgow on May 5. PFA Scotland chief executive Fraser Wishart wished all four young player of the year candidates luck.
“There is no greater honour in football than to be voted the best player in your country by your fellow professionals,” he added.
Meanwhile, PFA Scotland also revealed that the main player of the year award will be won by a player from outside the Old Firm for the first time in 23 years.
Former Dundee players Griffiths and Andrew Shinnie, now plying their trade at Hibs and Inverness Caley Thistle respectively, feature on that shortlist, alongside Motherwell striker Michael Higdon and Aberdeen forward Niall McGinn.
Jim Bett was the last non-Celtic or Rangers player to scoop the PFA player of the year accolade when he was playing for Aberdeen in 1990.
