Dundee United have confirmed that an “amicable agreement” has been reached with former assistant manager Paul Hegarty to leave the club.
The 58-year-old was widely expected to leave after the appointment of a new management team at Tannadice and that’s how it panned out, with “Heggy” leaving the club with the best wishes of chairman Stephen Thompson.
Hegarty returned to Tannadice as first team coach in February 2010 and was named as caretaker manager when Peter Houston parted company with the club in January.
However, with Jackie McNamara, Simon Donnelly and Darren Jackson now in place as part of the new regime at United, it has been rumoured for some time that Hegarty would leave the set-up.
A club spokesman said: “Paul, who also served Dundee United as player, club captain, coach and manager, leaves with the best wishes and grateful thanks for his many years of exemplary service on behalf of the club and will always be welcome at Tannadice Park.”
