Dundee United captain Jon Daly on Rangers’ ‘wanted’ list
ByCraig Smith
Dundee United look almost certain to lose skipper Jon Daly in the summer with Rangers leading the race for his signature.
The 30-year-old Irishman is out-of-contract at the end of the season and has attracted interest from a number of clubs, although it is understood Rangers have contacted United to highlight their intention to open talks with the player.
Daly’s agent Eamonn Collins is expected to discuss terms with the Ibrox club with a view to the striker potentially signing a pre-contract agreement.
Any deal is thought to be some way off, and Daly, who joined United from Hartlepool in 2007, may also have the option of going abroad.
But Ally McCoist has made no secret of his admiration for the Tannadice forward and seems determined to get his man.
Rangers’ interest in Daly is just their latest bid to take an SPL player to the lower ranks, with the Glasgow club also chasing St Johnstone midfielder Murray Davidson.
