Dundee United goalkeeper Rado Cierzniak believes an inability to turn draws into wins will be to blame if, as expected, they don’t make the top six.
The Tangerines’ fate has been taken out of their own hands and if Kilmarnock beat St Mirren at home they will have a three-point advantage over United plus a vastly superior goal difference going into the last pre-split games this weekend.
So it looks like they will miss out and if that is the case then the reason will be too many stalemates.
Cierzniak, who produced a string of excellent saves during the second half of Monday’s game against St Johnstone before finally losing a last-gasp equaliser to Liam Craig, said: “We have drawn too many games, especially at home, and that’s the reason we’re not in the top six.
“I have not seen anything like this in my life. We have drawn so many games and seem to have been so much better away from home.
“The SPL is a strong league, everyone is evenly-matched and it’s so tight. So it’s difficult but we have not helped ourselves with the amount of draws.”
Cierzniak promised the supporters that the United players will keep battling away in what remains of the season.
And it is not as if they still don’t have plenty to play for, given that places will be up for grabs for the WIlliam Hill Scottish Cup semi-final against Celtic at Hampden a week on Sunday.
“Losing to St Johnstone was very disappointing because we felt we had to win this game,” said Cierzniak.
“Now we have to look forward to the next game against Aberdeen on Saturday. Hopefully, we will be able to get a win.
“We have to believe, if there is a chance even 1% of the top six then we have to stay confident.
“The situation is difficult, it will rely on other results, but all we can do is go out and play our game. Hopefully if we can win against Aberdeen we’ll be happy at the end of it.”
Meanwhile, supporters are reminded that Saturday’s match against Aberdeen is all-ticket.
