DUNDEE UNITED’S board is a man down after the long-serving Gibby Haggart quit as an executive director last night.
Haggart entered the boardroom in January 2002, carrying on the family tradition of George Fox, his father-in-law and former club chairman.
Despite changes when Eddie Thompson took charge of United the following September, he brought continuity by remaining as a director.
He was a familiar face around the stadium and the Tangerines offered him their best wishes for the future.
A club statement read: “Gibby Haggart has stepped down from the board of Dundee United after 11 years of continuous and valued service as an executive director of the club.
“Gibby joined the board of directors of Dundee United in January 2002, following in the footsteps of his father-in-law George Fox, the former chairman of the club.
“Following the transfer of ownership to Eddie Thompson, Gibby retained his place on the board with specific responsibilities covering operations and administration.
“During his tenure, Gibby oversaw the establishment of new premises for the club shop, new seating in the Jerry Kerr Stand, the installation of new floodlights and the opening of the Levein Lounge, together with many other operational and property-related programmes.
“Everyone at Dundee United wishes Gibby and his wife Val a long, healthy and well-deserved retirement.”
The United board now consists of chairman Stephen Thompson; vice-chair Cath Thompson; directors John Bennett, Mike Martin and Derek Robertson; and associate directors Spence Anderson, Colin Stewart (ArabTRUST) and Stephen Bain.
