Dundee United boss Jackie McNamara admitted to feeling a bit aggrieved after a borderline refereeing decision cost his side full points from Inverness last night.
United battled well to earn a point thanks to a 0-0 draw, but TV replays suggested a late Jon Daly strike should have counted after appearing to cross the goal-line.
“It certainly looks from the angle we’ve got that it had crossed the line,” McNamara said. “The linesman has not given it so we just have to get on with it.
“Obviously from my point of view it’s disappointing if it has crossed the line because these wee things can be quite costly.
“I thought we merited the three points and when you look over the 90 minutes I thought we were the better team, especially second half. But we were a wee bit guilty of maybe not taking our chances.”
McNamara feels his side are still well placed to break into the top six, even though the point keeps United in the bottom half.
With two games against teams below them still to come in the league, the United manager will have been happy enough to have avoided defeat against a Caley side who had been in second spot going into the fixture.
“Inverness have taken eight goals off us in the two games we’ve played, so it’s pleasing to get a clean sheet,” he added.
“They are a dangerous side. They are physical and can cause you problems at set-pieces but I thought we matched them well and we deserved to get three points. It wasn’t to be but we’ll move on.”
An injury to Johnny Russell following what looked like a high tackle just below the knee will mean the striker is now doubtful for Sunday’s Scottish Cup derby and McNamara admits he should have a clearer idea of how he is later today.
“We’ll assess him but at the moment he’s very sore,” he said. “I thought it was a bad challenge on him. Hopefully there’s no damage.
“The kind of lad he is, he wanted to continue and that’s the first game I’ve been here he’s not scored. He might have snatched the winner for us, so I wanted to give him as long as possible.”
