St Johnstone manager Tommy Wright insisted the hurt from their League Cup semi-final defeat to Aberdeen a few weeks ago will drive them on when the two teams meet at the same stage of the Scottish Cup.
Saints have been paired with the Dons once more in a last four draw, while Dundee United will come up against Rangers or Albion Rovers (the ties to be played at Ibrox on the weekend of April 12/13).
Saints, who beat Raith Rovers 3-1 on Saturday (see pages 52 and 53), are chasing their first ever Scottish Cup final after losing their previous eight semis. But they haven’t scored against the Reds in four games this season and lost 4-0 in the recent semi.
Wright said: “I know my lads are still hurting from that League Cup defeat at Tynecastle. They want to rectify that one. We know we can do and will do better.
“We lost at Pittodrie 1-0 in the league recently but that performance has given us a huge confidence boost. We haven’t enjoyed the best of luck against Aberdeen so we are possibly due a result.
“It will be a tough game but as I said after the win over Raith, if we play well it genuinely doesn’t matter who we were going to face.
“We have reached two cup semi-finals in one season and that is good going. But we want to go one further and become the first St Johnstone team to reach the final of this competition.”
