Two St Johnstone players might not make the plane for next week’s trip to Switzerland, but Stevie May isn’t one of them.
Steven Anderson and Gary McDonald sat out the 4-0 midweek win over East Fife, and are serious doubts for the Europa League first leg clash against FC Luzern.
Striker May was substituted after scoring a goal in the first half, but assistant manager Callum Davidson confirmed the injury was not serious.
Davidson reported: “Stevie’s thigh was a bit tight against East Fife but I think he will be alright for the European game.”
Neither Anderson nor captain Dave Mackay featured in Methil, but only the former is a worry for Lucerne.
“Cuptie (Dave Mackay) trained today. He had aggravated his hip but he will be fine. But Ando has a wee hamstring strain and he is borderline for Thursday.
“These things happen in pre-season,” said Davidson. “Gary hurt his back last week. He has been scanned and we are monitoring him during a course of rehab.
“It is one of those that takes time to settle down. It is wait and see. He had an injury like it a few years ago and it healed up pretty quick. We are hoping he will be fit to travel to Switzerland but it is too early to say one way or another. Cuptie should play at Raith (on Saturday) but the others won’t.”
