St Johnstone manager Tommy Wright has urged his players to set their sights higher yet again as they bid to cut the four-point gap on third-placed Inverness.
The Perth side were focused on making the top six following a slow start to the season and then immediately targeted fourth spot and a possible European place when they achieved their initial goal.
But last weekend’s 2-0 win at Dens Park, coupled with Aberdeen’s defeat of Inverness, has given Saints a glimpse of third and a guaranteed Europa League place.
Wright said: “Probably six weeks ago you wouldn’t have thought we would be in this position.
“It’s a great position the lads have put themselves in. To get top six and get the win at Dundee where people probably didn’t expect us to win, now with three home games we have a chance to push for third.
“We know it’s not going to be easy. Inverness have had a tremendous season and they will know a win probably takes us out the equation for third place.
“So we have to make sure we take Saturday’s performance into the game.”
