St Johnstone put the frighteners on Hamilton Accies with a Hallowe’en super show at New Douglas Park.
The pre-match music included a Michael Jackson classic suitable for the occasion and this game certainly turned out to be a “Thriller” for the travelling supporters.
Saints took the lead through a fine headed goal from Graham Cummins four minutes before the break then the same man added a second with a low strike just four minutes after the interval.
David Wotherspoon made it 3-0 on 63 minutes when he curled the ball home from inside the box after Hamilton keeper Michael McGovern had dropped a Cummins cross.
Then came the best goal of the lot on 66 minutes when on-form Michael O’Halloran let fly with a rocket shot that nearly burst the back of the home net from 20 yards.
Hamilton grabbed one back when Jesus Garcia Tena scored with a freekick on 81 minutes then netted another from the penalty spot – once again from Garcia Tena with just two minutes left on the clock.
Despite that late flurry from Accies, Tommy Wright’s team were worthy winners.
They now move up to fourth spot in the Premiership and this result capped a superb week that also saw Saints reach the semi-finals of the League Cup.
