St Johnstone’s Murray Davidson is aware more than most exactly what team-mate Michael O’Halloran is going through at the moment.
Back in 2011, Davidson was the subject of intense transfer speculation linking him with a move to Rangers.
The same is now happening with O’Halloran, who was left out of the St Johnstone squad at the weekend as manager Tommy Wright felt he wasn’t right mentally after Saints rejected two bids from the Ibrox side last week.
Davidson believes if the pacy front man does eventually leave to play for Mark Warburton’s side, he will have earned the move.
However, if he ends up staying at Saints, Davidson is certain O’Halloran will continue to give nothing less than 100 per cent for the club.
He said: “I remember when Derek McInnes was in charge, Rangers placed a bid for me.
“It just so happened to be the Friday and we played Rangers the day later.
“Derek phoned me on the Friday night and asked me if I wanted to play. I said that until a bid was accepted which never happened I was more than happy to play.
“I was still a St Johnstone player.
“I don’t know about Mikey but for me, it was more away from football, people walking down the street, your friends and family asking what was happening.
“It would start to get to you but when I was in at St Johnstone, I was always focused on that.
“Whether Mikey’s head has been turned . . . you would need to speak to him.
“I have seen a few things written in the press this week. He is only human and at some stage it will start to affect him.
“If he does go, I will be the first to say congratulations as he has earned it.
“If he doesn’t, he is professional enough to come back and do his best for St Johnstone.”
