Aberdeen v St Johnstone: Gary Miller keen to see Dons’ wings clipped

St Johnstone midfielder Gary Miller insists revenge won’t be on his mind when he runs out at Pittodrie.

Memories are still fresh of the Scottish League Cup semi-final loss to Aberdeen a month ago but Miller won’t be reflecting upon that 4-0 result when kick-off comes.

Rather, he will be concentrating on trying to secure the points that will help the club’s bid to finish in the top six of the Scottish Premiership.

The home side may be on a high after beating Celtic but Saints travel north full of confidence after seeing off third-top Motherwell 3-0 at McDiarmid Park on Tuesday night.

“Aberdeen are a good side and have been on a good run,” said Miller.

“They have been the second-best team in the league this season. So we know it won’t be easy but we’re confident that against anyone we can beat them on our day.

“Aberdeen scored four against us in the League Cup but we are not thinking about revenge or anything like that.

“We just want to play the way we can up at Pittodrie and see what happens.

“It is a hard place to go, as Celtic found out this week, but we have good quality in our team and if we play like we did against Motherwell we will be thereabouts.

“Aberdeen have got their fans behind them at the moment, there’s excitement there. But we are confident and positive about the way things are going here.

“The top six is all to play for and we need wins to make sure we stay ahead of Hibs.

“It’s a busy time coming up and if we can win two or three in a row then we will give ourselves a real chance.

“It was a great result for us on Tuesday and we need to build on it now. It felt like we were back to what we had been like earlier in the season.

“Hopefully, we can keep it going into the Aberdeen game now.”

Miller scored a wonder strike against the Steelmen and he would love to repeat the feat against the high-flying Dons.

He said: “I have certainly not scored a goal as long as that before.

“When I first got the ball near my own half, my main thought was to take it to the corner because there wasn’t much time left on the clock.

“Chris Millar was shouting for it but the space opened up in front of me so I just headed towards goal.

“To be honest, I just kept running and in the end didn’t really have a choice but to shoot.

“I had delayed it that long that having a go myself was the only option andthankfully I put it into the top corner.

“I was actually just as pleased at being able to run the length of the park after 87 minutes!

“I was expecting to cramp up a bit because it was my first game for a while.

“That’s my first goal for St Johnstone so it was a great way to open my account here.

“I got two or three for Ross County and they were all decent strikes. I’m not really one for the tap-ins.”
