St Johnstone central defender Frazer Wright is hoping to continue his career at McDiarmid Park.
At the grand “old” age of 35, Wright knows the time will come when he has to call it a day and make way for a younger version.
However, he has been in contracts talks with boss Tommy Wright and feels he still has something to offer Saints.
Those discussions look likely to result in a new one-year deal for the player who joined the Perth men from Kilmarnock in the summer of 2011.
He said: “I have spoken to the manager and we are going to discuss things again at the end of the season.
“We will see what happens but as it stands I feel like I could play on for another year.
“Hopefully, we will be able to get something sorted.
“The manager is looking at it and we know he has to bring in younger legs to freshen it up.
“But hopefully I can hang around for another year and help with the transition to doing that.”
Wright was struggling on the park because of a hip problem at the start of the season but painkilling injections have eased the injury and enabled him to move more freely on the park.
Also, having a wise, experienced head on his shoulders has helped.
He said: “It gets easier when you are older because you know when to run and when not to run.
“The manager also knows what games I am suited for and what games I am not suited for.
“Things have been going really well lately and my performances have been like night and day compared to the start of the season.
“I have had the two injections six months apart and I feel really good.
“It has knocked years off me, to be honest.
“They have calmed everything down and made me able to move a lot better.”
However, one thing Wright hasn’t been able to fix is his broken nose, which was caused by one of his teammate’s in training.
He said: “I went to see a specialist about my nose after Steven Anderson booted me in the face.
“But he told me he woud have to cut me on the bottom of my nose, peel the whole thing back and then get stuck in about it with a chisel.
“He would have to break it and re-set it again.
“So I just told him to leave it just now because if I’m going to play on it will probably get broken again.
“Hopefully, Ando won’t boot me again!”
As he waist to get his future sorted out, there will be plenty of action on the park to keep Wright occupied.
Saints are hot on the heels of Dundee United in the race for fourth place in the Premiership and can move ahead of the Tangerines by beating Dundee away on Saturday.
“It’s going to be an exciting end to the season because we’re only a point behind United, although they have a game in hand,” said Wright.
“We still have to play them and the fixtures have been good for us, with three home games.
“If we can put a run together we might be in there fighting for fourth at the end of the season.
“They looked miles in front of us at one point but they have had a poor run since the turn of the year.
“We have not really had a good run but we have been consistent.
“So it is just a case of picking up as many points as we can, see where we end up and what fourth place might bring.”
Wright has been nursing a twisted ankle since the win over Dundee two weeks ago but insists he will be fit for Saturday.
He said: “I rolled my ankle in the last game but I think I will be fine for the weekend.”
