Hibs 0 St Johnstone 0: Midfield dilemma for Saints ahead of Celts visit
ByEric Nicolson
St Johnstone manager Tommy Wright could find himself with a dearth of central midfielders for the Boxing Day visit of Celtic.
Murray Davidson and Chris Millar were both substituted in the first half of the 0-0 draw against Hibs on Saturday with abdomen and groin injuries respectively, while Davidson’s replacement, Paddy Cregg, was sent off within a minute of taking the park.
His straight red card will mean an automatic one-game ban. Wright sent Liam Caddis to Alloa on a 28-day loan at the weekend and David Robertson has been released.
The Perth boss hasn’t ruled out an appeal against Cregg’s suspension after changing his mind on whether it was a fair ordering off.
His initial reaction was to have no complaints with the straight red, but that had changed by Sunday.
He said: “I’ve looked at it again and I’m not sure it should have been a red card. I’ll speak to the chairman and see what we’re going to do. We might appeal it.”
