St Johnstone boss Tommy Wright says his players are working hard to address their poor record on the road this season.
The Perth club have performed well in front of their own fans but have been disappointing away from home in the league, winning just once and taking just six points from a possible 30.
That record was compounded over the festive season with a 4-0 defeat at Motherwell and a 1-0 setback at Ross County, and it is a run of form that has puzzled players and staff at McDiarmid Park.
Following the loss at Fir Park, Wright suggested Saints may have played too openly away from home but noted they were unlikely to play any other way due to the players he has at his disposal.
“I don’t think we’ve had much luck away from home as well,” he said.
“Particularly at home against Dundee United, although I thought we were really good that day and against Kilmarnock we were good, they had people sent off and decisions went our way and that can happen.
“But we’ve had tough games away from home and I think other than Hibs where we didn’t create a lot, we have created a lot of chances away from home and maybe haven’t taken them.”
He added: “I look at us and sometimes we were probably more dogged away from home last season and we maybe didn’t create a lot of chances but when they came we took them and we had something to hold on to.
“But we haven’t really scored enough goals away from home this season and we haven’t got in front often enough.
“So it is something we need to address but in saying that we’ve won away from home in Europe twice in tough games, and in the cups against Championship sides, so we must be doing something right.”
Wright has tipped defender Frazer Wright to come back strongly following the error that led to his side’s defeat at the weekend.
He was dispossessed by Ross County’s Melvin de Leeuw with just two minutes left on the clock, allowing Graham Carey to slide the ball beyond Alan Mannus for a late winner.
Wright said: “Frazer has been magnificent this season and you can count the number of mistakes he’s made on one hand In saying that we could have got away with it Carey runs off the midfield and we could have helped Frazer out there, and there were other little mistakes in the goal.
“Frazer knows and he’s put his hands up after the game, but he’ll bounce back. I think he’s been tremendous all season.”
