St Johnstone manager Tommy Wright wants his players to sit tight in the top six following their convincing win at New Douglas Park.
The 4-2 victory over Hamilton Accies took Saints up to fourth in the table.
Although reluctant to predict just how far his team can go, Wright would love them to remain in the top half if possible.
Wright said: “It’s five away wins in a row and eight wins from our last 11.
“We’ve put ourselves in a great position but we’re not going to predict where we’re going to finish because we know how difficult a league this is.
“Some players from some clubs say they are going to finish in the top six or the top four. We don’t do that.
“But we are in a good position and compared to where we were at this stage last season, we are five or six points better off.
“Hopefully we cement our position in the top six.”
A double from Graham Cummins and a goal apiece from David Wotherspoon and Michael O’Halloran sealed the points.
Jesus Garcia Tena did manage to pull back two late goals but the fightback was too late for Accies to have any real hope of salvaging anything from the game.
Wright added: “We knew Hamilton would come at us from early on because they would adapt to the surface better than us.
“We defended well and our keeper made good saves.
“I told the players at half-time we weren’t passing the ball well enough but when we did pass it we got in a couple of times down the left-hand side.
“We were fortunate to go in 1-0 at half-time.
“We were much better in the second half and scored good goals. Overall, I’m really pleased.”
Accies actually looked like the bigger goal threat early on and player-boss Martin Canning was disappointed to go on and concede four goals against Saints for the second time this season.
He said: “Football is a strange game.
“For the first 40 minutes we totally controlled the game but we found ourselves going into half-time a goal down.
“It was disappointing but that’s football.
“We didn’t start the second half well and conceded sloppy goals from our point of view.
“We managed to get two back and that was positive but it’s eight goals we’ve conceded to St Johnstone this season.
“On the balance of play in both games that’s hard to believe, but credit to them as you’ve got to put the ball in the back of the net.”
