Two-goal hero Stevie May has dedicated Saints’ semi-final win to the club’s loyal fans.
Around 3,000 supporters made the trip to Ibrox believing this was the year they could finally make history by reaching the final of the nation’s premier knockout tournament.
Their striker did not let them down with a double which hoisted his goals tally to 25 for the season.
May said: “I’m absolutely buzzing on a personal note but from a team perspective I can’t quite describe what it means to us to reach a Scottish Cup final.
“It will mean so much to the fans as well. I don’t think there’s a greater satisfaction than coming from behind to win a cup tie.
“We have been to so many semi-finals and not quite gotten over that hurdle but now we have done it and we have a final to look forward to.
“It is a chance to win a big cup in this country. The fact I am a local boy and a fan makes it even better.
“It is the first time St Johnstone have been to a Scottish Cup final so it does mean that little bit more.”
In a repeat of the League Cup semi-final defeat by the Dons, May was on the receiving end of flak from the Red Army.
However, the long-haired frontman brushed it off, saying: “I don’t really know why the Aberdeen fans have it in for me. I think they just don’t like my hair or something.
“If I was to guess that would be my guess. It’s obviously just banter so scoring the goals to beat them made it that little bit sweeter.
“But just getting to the Scottish Cup final is enough for me. A lot of people wrote us off today before the game and probably even more so when we fell a goal behind at half-time.
“I think people were maybe wondering what was going to hit us. But when we got to the break and we were still comfortable.
“We had chances and I probably should have scored in the first half. Once we got the goal I was confident that we were the side who were going to go on and win it.
“I think we outplayed them in the second half but they play on the counter so it can be deceiving.”
