St Johnstone 0 Inverness CT 1: Under par Saints lose at home to Caley Thistle
ByThe Courier Reporter
Under par St Johnstone suffered a day to forget at McDiarmid Park.
Apart from a lack-lustre performance from Tommy Wright’s men, there was a serious leg injury sustained by Frazer Wright.
The Caley Thistle goal came on 41 minutes.
David Raven crossed into the box and Dave Mackay’s attempted clearance was a weak one.
It dropped on to the head of Gary Warren, who gave Alan Mannus no chance.
Just before the hour mark Saints had an excellent chance to equalise.
A David Wotherspoon shot was palmed out by Dean Brill, and Nigel Hasselbaink had the goal gaping with his header from six yards, but sent it past the post.
There were precious few chances after that.
This match could have got Saints close to Caley Thistle and kept them in the hunt for fifth and even fourth place in the table.
The best they can realistically hope for now though is sixth.
