James McFadden has decided to blank out the uncertainty clouding his future.
But, as his St Johnstone contract nears an end, the former Everton, Birmingham City and Motherwell star still sees a role in the top flight.
Instead of fretting about next season, the striker is focusing on the Perth club’s bid to retain fourth place and bag a potential Europa invite as they head for Aberdeen on the final day of the campaign.
McFadden is eager to play a role as Saints bid to fend off Dundee United, who crashed 3-0 at Inverness to trail their rivals by a point.
The former Tartan Army pin-up admits the switch to McDiarmid hasn’t panned out the way he had hoped after leaving Fir Park.
He has been restricted to bit parts, including in Friday’s 0-0 draw with Celtic, when he was denied a late winner by a combination of Emilio Izaguirre and the woodwork after coming off the bench.
McFadden (32) said: “I have no thoughts on my future at the moment. I’ll play at the weekend and see what happens.
“I came here to play and it has not worked out that way, so it has been frustrating. When I first came in I did well but then I got banned, which was my own fault.
“I got a couple of niggles and haven’t been able to get back in the team since then. It has been a hard second half to the season, it hasn’t gone the way I wanted to.
“I’ll regroup over the summer and see what happens.
“When the season is finished I’m forgetting about things while I go on holiday because it has been tough mentally for me.
“I’ve not played many games but I still have plenty to offer at this level. I need a run of games.
“I’ve had a serious injury and have found it tough to come back to a decent run of fitness.
“The last two or three months I’ve felt more like myself. I’ve been unfortunate I’ve not got a game but in training I’ve felt really sharp.
“I’ll rest up over the summer and see what happens after that.”
McFadden thought he had snatched a winner against Celtic.
He said: “My header was definitely going in but Izaguirre has done really well to keep it out.
“I thought all the way it was in but he just got a touch and that took it onto the post.
“It was a good point for us, we’re disappointed we didn’t score and win the game, but we would have taken a point before the game.
“We had some really good chances but just couldn’t score. But it keeps things alive for the weekend and that’s the main thing.
“We put in a very good performance, we were the better team and in terms of chances created we had more than Celtic.
“We know we played well and there’s no better feeling coming off knowing you’ve left nothing on the pitch.
“Obviously we would have liked to win the game but performance-wise, I thought we were excellent.
“So hopefully we can go to Aberdeen and play the same way but add a goal or two. We still have a lot to play for.
“We’ll go to Pittodrie full of confidence, we’ll try to put another performance in.”
