St Johnstone’s Stevie May will have to wait a while longer before he gets a Scotland call-up.
The squad named by Gordon Strachan for friendlies against USA and Norway later this month had a tried-and-tested rather than experimental feel to it.
Sunderland’s Steven Fletcher returns to the fold, and Partick Thistle keeper Scott Fox is in as back-up, with Allan McGregor injured.
Other than that though, Strachan has unsurprisingly stuck with the players who finished the World Cup qualifiers strongly.
Although May had been suggested as a possible call-up, his club manager Tony Wright always suspected it might be too soon for the striker.
“I don’t think he will be (named in the Scotland squad),” the Saints boss said before Monday’s draw. “I think it might be too early for him.
“I think maybe give him another three or four months playing at that level and then Gordon will look at it.”
Full squad: Scott Fox, Matt Gilks, David Marshall; Christophe Berra, Gordon Greer, Grant Hanley, Alan Hutton, Russell Martin, Charlie Mulgrew, Lee Wallace, Steven Whittaker; Charlie Adam, Ikechi Anya, Barry Bannan, Scott Brown, Craig Bryson, Chris Burke, James Forrest, James Morrison, James McArthur, Robert Snodgrass.
