St Johnstone have signed Irish striker Graham Cummins on a one-year deal.
And Perth manager Tommy Wright, who kept a recent trial spell for the former Republic of Ireland under-21 international quiet, expects to bring in another attacker before the start of next season.
Exeter City’s Cummins will be a replacement for Ross County-bound targetman Brian Graham, and Wright is confident that the ex-Preston North End forward will be a hit in Scottish football.
He said: “Graham has been on our radar for a while now and we are delighted to get him.
“He came up for a couple of days and he impressed us. Graham will complement strikers like Steven MacLean, Michael O’Halloran and Chris Kane. But I am still determined to bring in another attacker to ensure we have options.
“Graham scored plenty of goals for Cork City and got a big move to Preston a few years back. They paid a decent six figure fee for him.
“But it didn’t work out for him and last summer he moved on to Exeter.
“Graham is keen to come to Scotland and sees this as a great move for him at this stage of his career. He is delighted with the opportunity we have given him and I firmly believe he will do well for us.
“With Brian Graham moving on, we needed to bring in another striker. But I want real competition for places up top and we are working on bringing in another striker.”
Defender Frazer Wright is still mulling over the 12-month contract tabled by the club last week, but fellow defender Gary Miller isn’t being offered a new deal after three years at the club.
“Gary is being released,” Wright confirmed.
“We have Brad McKay coming in from Hearts and Joe Shaughnessy from Aberdeen, along with some younger players keen to make an impact.
“Gary has done extremely well for us since he came in from Ross County when Steve Lomas was in charge and I gave him an extended deal.
“He has been an important part of a very successful squad and I have no doubt Gary will find himself another club in Premiership.”
Miller made his 50th start in the recent 0-0 draw with Celtic, replacing skipper Dave Mackay. But he was ruled out of the weekend win over Aberdeen with a thigh injury.
Wright added: “A dead leg kept Gary sidelined at the weekend. In his time here he has never let anyone down but I know he would preferred to have been playing more regularly this season. We wish him well where he goes.”
