St Johnstone striker Stevie May tipped for Scotland step up
ByThe Courier Reporter
Stvie May will join up with the Scotland under-21s this week, but his St Johnstone strike-partner Steven MacLean believes a call-up for the senior squad could soon be on the cards.
The Perth frontman notched his seventh goal of the season in the four-goal rout of Premiership high-flyers Inverness Caledonian Thistle on Saturday, and set up the other three.
And if he continues to find the net, national coach Gordon Strachan will take note, according to MacLean.
He said: “If he keeps scoring goals, then why not? Is there another Scottish striker scoring more goals than him this season? That speaks for itself.
“That’s for Mr Strachan though. But if he keeps going the way he’s going, he’ll not be far away. Look at Leigh Griffiths last season. His SPL performances got him in the squad.
“If Stevie can do well for the under-21s as well, he’ll have a good chance.”
