St Johnstone boss Steve Lomas says Neil Lennon has every right to reshuffle his team even if it has an impact on the race for Europe.
The Celtic manager revealed he will leave out at least five of his key players against Ross County this weekend, with one eye on the Scottish Cup final at the end of the season.
That may have raised the eyebrows of some Saints fans hoping their side can pip County to third spot in the SPL this term.
However, Lomas maintained that meddling in other people’s business isn’t his style and is focusing on qualifying for the Europa League on his own terms.
“Whatever team Neil puts out is decent enough to win an SPL game,” he said. “Neil is entitled to do whatever he wants so I’ve no problem there. Whatever team Neil puts out is capable of going anywhere and winning.
“He’s entitled to look after his own club and I’m not into telling managers how to do that. I think Pat Fenlon made a great quote the other day when he said it’s hard enough managing one.
“Celtic have earned the right to do what they want they’ve won the league, they’ve got a cup final coming up and I’d do exactly the same in his position.”
Saints head to Tannadice on Saturday to face the only side they haven’t beaten so far this season, Dundee United.
There have been three draws, but Lomas hopes his side can continue the momentum they have shown in recent games to keep the pressure on third-placed Inverness.
“Our aim is to try and take it down to the last game and see where we are,” he said. “We’re under no illusions that’s it’s the toughest run-in by a country mile but we go there in good heart.
“They are a decent team and with Mackay-Steven, Flood, Armstrong and Rankin they’ve got good energy and it will be a good battle in midfield against our three.”
Lomas is hopeful midfielder Murray Davidson might be able to play some part tomorrow, although Mehdi Abeid and David McCracken are both out.
