Steve Lomas has called on St Johnstone fans to flock to McDiarmid Park and hopefully cheer their team into Europe for a historic second year in a row.
But whatever happens against Motherwell, the players deserve to be cheered off the pitch according to the Perth boss.
Lomas, who will take charge of a team without Frazer Wright after he lost his Hampden appeal, pointed out: “The overall picture is that we are top six and going for Europe in the final game.
“We’d have bitten your hand off if we were offered that at the start of the season.
“We should be partying on Sunday and I hope the fans come out in numbers and enjoy themselves because, a word of warning, we will face challenges next season with the budget being cut back again.
“Inverness have to be favourites with their point advantage and a better goal difference. We know what we have to do on Sunday and we certainly have to play better than we did against Celtic. But it’s all there to play for.”
“I don’t think the lads here have been given the credit they deserve,” added Lomas.
“There will be a few boys leaving and they want to make it a day to remember. Muzz (Murray Davidson) and Liam (Craig) are definitely going and we could be looking at quite a few boys playing their last game.
“We hope not and we’re hoping we can get a few re-signed but that’s still up in the air.
“That is why they deserve all the credit because they have been super professional all the way down the line. Everyone in the squad has made a contribution.
“Footballers get slaughtered at times but these boys are not earning great money in SPL terms, never mind compared with south of the border.
“Most of them don’t know where the next contract is. But despite that uncertainty they have brought it down to the wire. All credit to them for their attitude. Any money these lads get has been earned, and more.
“Regardless of the results on Sunday, the fans should be giving these boys a standing ovation to show their appreciation for what they have contributed to their club all season long.
“For St Johnstone to be competing for back-to-back European qualifications for the first time ever is unprecedented.”
Wright’s two-game ban stands after he failed to persuade an SFA disciplinary panel to overturn it.
Lomas said: “It is very disappointing that Frazer was unsuccessful in his appeal because we don’t believe he was guilty of deliberate intent.
“I think we need to have a close look at the citation system and trial by television because we are all seeking consistency.
“My very real worry is that managers will start flagging-up incidents missed by officials during games and which might not have been highlighted on television.”
A likely tactical change on Sunday will be Dave Mackay moving to centre-back and Gary Miller filling in at right-back. Chris Millar and Mehdi Abeid have an outside chance of featuring.
