St Johnstone boss lines up loan deal for QPR man Michael Doughty

St Johnstone manager Steve Lomas has used his QPR contacts to set up a loan deal for Welsh under-21 midfielder Michael Doughty.

Confirmation has still not been given by Aberdeen that winger Peter Pawlett will be returning to Pittodrie, but given that Ryan Fraser has been sold to Bournemouth, it appears likely he’s played his last game for Saints.

Lomas is now hoping his board will allow the Doughty loan to be completed through to the end of the season.

His old boss at West Ham and current Loftus Road manager, Harry Redknapp, is happy for the 20-year-old to head north for first-team experience.

He has already trained with the Saints squad after loan spells at Crawley Town and Aldershot.

Lomas said: “Michael was up to have a look around last week and we had a close look at him.

“Obviously I know Harry well from our West Ham days and I know Marc Bircham (the London club’s head of youth development) from my time at QPR.

“I think he would be a good asset to have, but a decision will have to be made in the next few days.”

Meanwhile, Lomas was relieved to hear that defender Gary Miller had suffered ligament damage against Motherwell on Sunday rather than the suspected broken ankle which would have ended his season.

He said: “On the plus side Gary seems to have tweaked his ankle rather than broken it in stoppage time. The x-ray was good news. It is a massive plus. Now we will see how he reacts during the week.”
