St Johnstone skipper Dave Mackay has spoken of his delight at securing his future at the club after signing a two-year deal.
Now he is hoping Saints chairman Steve Brown can persuade other players to follow suit and ensure there is stability within the Saints squad.
He said: “I’m delighted to get it sorted out. When you are coming towards the end of any contract, there is always a worry that you could pick up an injury and you could be left in limbo. So it is good to have your future sorted out.
“We have a few players going out of contract here, and obviously Liam Craig is going to Hibs in the summer. I think Murray Davidson will be leaving and Craig Beattie has just left, but hopefully most of the lads will be here next season.
“You don’t want big changes and a huge turnaround every season and facing the prospect of 10 or more players changing. I know the club is having talks with a few of the boys. It would be good to keep most of the core here.
“There are players who have been here three or four years and that continuity has been important to the club’s success. It has worked for us so far.
“Hopefully we can bring in someone this week just to freshen it up a bit.
“That is down to the manager and the chairman, but if there are new faces brought in they will certainly be made welcome and hopefully improve us.”
