New Scottish Boys champion Will Porter picked up the notable scalp of Amateur champion Bradley Neil when the two met in a county match at the weekend.
The 17-year-old Carnoustie member, winner of the Scottish Boys at Dunbar two weeks ago, defeated Neil 4 and 2 at Monifieth where the Blairgowrie player won his own Scottish Boys’ title two years ago in a match pitching Angus against Perth and Kinross.
Porter, a pupil at Glenalmond College, helped Angus to an excellent 5-3 win against a strong Perth and Kinross team, which also featured South African Amateur champion Daniel Young, former Scottish Amateur champion Glenn Campbell and Gavin Dear, the former Walker Cup player making his return to county golf after regaining his amateur status earlier this year.
Dear, who has reverted to the unpaid ranks after a spell as a professional, lost by two holes to Monifieth’s Chris Hutcheon.
