Preparations for the 2014 Ryder Cup at Gleneagles continue apace, with proposals submitted to planners for a refurbishment of Dormy Club House.
The listed clubhouse is the centrepiece of the championship courses.
Now deemed “tired and ready for a complete refurbishment,” plans include a more impressive entrance with combined bar/restaurant, improved locker facilities and two new captain’s rooms within the existing building.
A statement from Gleneagles’ agent Colliers International said, “The fundamental objective of the modifications is to further raise the quality of the Gleneagles facilities.
“This is a high priority to ensure the facilities meet the highest standards of quality for the near future as Gleneagles will host the Ryder Cup golf tournament in 2014.”
It added, “This worldwide broadcast event would showcase the location, its setting and the quality of its facilities.
“It is therefore a key operational objective for Gleneagles to ensure it is fully prepared and geared up to welcome visitors for many more years to come.”
The works would see the clubhouse, on the driveway to the five-star hotel building, brought in line with its plush interior, bringing the entrance to a “world-class” standard.
Upon being given the 2014 tournament, Gleneagles announced £18 million of upgrades to its facilities.
Changes have already been made to the PGA Centenary Course for the 40th Ryder Cup.
It will be a homecoming of sorts for the tournament, as an informal competition between British and American teams was held on the King’s Course at Gleneagles in 1921.
With a projected 65,000-100,000 visitors, it should inject up to £60 million into the local economy.
