An exciting head-to-head clash between two former Ryder Cup golf captains will be played out over the pristine fairways of the Fairmont St Andrews next month.
Scotsman Sam Torrance and American Tom Lehman will lead opposing teams in a golf day on Monday, July 12.
The pair will be at the Old Course later in the week with Lehman set to play in The Open and Torrance working as part of the BBC’s commentary team but they are sure to be fully focused on victory at Fairmont.
Both men have been on the winning and losing sides in the Ryder Cup and, as Torrance’s Europe came out on top in 1995, the only time both played in the same event, Lehman is looking to level things up.
Torrance will have a home advantage of sorts, however, with the competition due to take place over the course he designed and which also bears his name.
After breakfast with their teams, the captains will take their players through a warm-up and offer last-minute tips in a coaching clinic.
Once the competition starts, the pair will be out on the course providing moral support as well as cigars and drinks to their players and will take them on in a beat-the-pro contest.
The day will end with a barbecue and prize-giving, allowing competitors to partake in some Scottish hospitality with their captains.
Fairmont St Andrews boasts two first-class 18-hole layouts in the Torrance and Kittocks courses, which have both benefited from a recent £17m redevelopment.
