A galaxy of stars will visit Fife and Tayside next week for the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship.

Amateur golfers including actor Hugh Grant, presenter Chris Evans and Bon Jovi drummer Tico Torres will be among those rubbing shoulders with the likes of fairway legends Darren Clarke, Rory McIlroy and Ernie Els.

A locker room of sporting stars will also take part in the event, including knights Ian Botham, Bobby Charlton, Matthew Pinsent and Steve Redgrave.

The Dunhill is played over the Old Course at St Andrews, Championship Course at Carnoustie and Kingsbarns Golf Links. With a prize fund of $5 million, the championship incorporates two competitions a professional tournament for leading golfers and a team event in which the professionals are paired with celebrated amateur golfers.

The amateurs will be playing alongside not only Darren Clarke but also current world numbers one and two Luke Donald and Lee Westwood.

Major winners Retief Goosen, Padraig Harrington, Graeme McDowell and Louis Oosthuizen will be among others to play.

The Dunhill tees off on September 29, and entrance to the championship will be free at all three courses on Thursday, Friday and Saturday.

The only charge will be for the final day’s play over the Old Course on Sunday, October 2.

Entry for under-16s and students is free.
