Paul Swindlehurst makes his dream trip to North America to take part in rookie training camps with some of the world’s top young players with the blessing of Dundee Stars’ bosses.
Co-owner Mike Ward clamed it was a win-win situation for the team.
Swindlehurst travels west next week to attend the Chicago Blackhawks National Hockey League (NHL) camp and then is expected to move on to the American Hockey League and East Coast Hockey League camps.
Ward said: “Paul goes with our blessing. It’s a great opportunity for him and he will gain great experience from this.
“He has three options so we don’t expect to hear what’s happening until mid-October but we’re pleased for him.”
The defenceman sits out Friday’s Elite League home opener against Belfast Giants as a precaution. The 21-year-old, who played 59 games for Stars last season, admitted: “This is a dream come true for me.”
The former Great Britain under-18 and under-20 star, who played five games for the senior side in last season’s World Championship, knows it is a great chance.
He added: “I’ll be keeping in touch with everybody who has supported me at Dundee. I’ve wanted to do this since I was five years old and now I have the chance.”
