Edinburgh Capitals player/coach Richard Hartmann led by example last night to claim a glory double as the Murrayfield men edged arch rivals Fife Flyers 4-3 in a thriller.
Hartmann’s game-winner came 11 seconds from time after being set up by Rene Jarolin and Marcel Petran.
The victory, following Capitals’ 3-2 win at Dundee Stars on Saturday, earns them a four-point weekend.
The veteran Slovakian, who declared himself fit only hours before Saturday’s game, started the goal rush after 1min 46sec.
Matt Reber levelled 17 minutes later and Scott Fleming fired Fife 2-1 ahead 21 seconds into the middle session.
Back came Capitals with Jarolin levelling after 36 minutes and Jade Portwood netting three minutes later, only 29 seconds from the end of the middle session.
Bobby Chaumont made it 3-3 three minutes into the final stanza but Hartmann’s late strike ended the contest.
On Saturday at Kirkcaldy, former Chicago Blackhawks draft pick Chris Augerwas the toast of Rosslyn Street.
The 26-year-old forward claimed a straight treble to down league leadersBraehead Clan.
Fired-up Fife made Clan pay for picking up penalties, scoring four power play goals in their 6-2 victory.
The penalty count totalled 89 minutes, with Clan accounting for 58, and Fife laid the foundations with a 3-0 first-period scoreline.
Jamie Milam opened their account after nine minutes on the power play and Kyle Hughes claimed a glory double, with goals after 12 and 14 minutes.
Fife went 4-0 ahead to the dismay of Clan’s travelling fans when Auger opened his account after 34 minutes.
Scott Pitt pulled one back for Clan two minutes later but Auger was in the right place at the right time on a power play three minutes after that to score his second and Fife’s fifth and snuff out any chance of a Clan comeback.
