Ice hockey: Loss leaves Fife Flyers with much to do

Jereme Tendler claimed a treble as Fife Flyers suffered a set-back in their bid to make the play-offs when they were beaten 7-3 at Hull Stingrays.

Flyers must regroup ahead of Saturday’s home joust with Belfast Giants and the trip to Dundee Stars on Sunday.

Free-scoring Guillaume Doucet opened the scoring on the power play for the home side after seven minutes with Derek Roehl watching from the sin bin on a tripping penalty, but Fife kept working and Jordan Fulton levelled after Pacha was sin binned for tripping.

The visitors’ goal came after 16 minutes, but Fife’s joy was short-lived as Hull went ahead for a second time.

It was Pacha who converted, with Hull having a one man advantage, Haines having been dispatched to the sin bin six seconds earlier for interference.

Battling Fife levelled again with 30 minutes on the clock after Ned Lucacevic netted. Just 49 seconds later former Edinburgh favourite Jason Silverthorn restored Hull’s slender lead.

Davies was also involved in Hull’s fourth as Tendler found the net after 43 minutes for 4-2. Tendler made it 5-2 on the power play two minutes later and Flyers’ defenceman Matt Nickerson was then given a match penalty.

Hull’s player/coach Sylvain Cloutier made them pay with a sixth after 47 minutes before Tendler completed his hat-trick four minutes later.

Kyle Haines scored Fife’s third in the dying seconds.
