Unforgettable Hampden experience for Fife delivery driver

Kirkcaldy’s Mark Fleming experienced a once in a lifetime opportunity as he showed some of the world’s best athletes the way at the Sainsbury’s Glasgow Grand Prix.
The 38-year-old works at the Kirkcaldy branch of Sainsbury’s and led out the finest women’s T11-13 100m athletes, including Scotland’s two-time Paralympic silver medallist Libby Clegg, onto the Hampden Park track.
Delivery driver Fleming performed his role in front of thousands of onlookers packed into the Commonwealth Games stadium and is certain he will not forget the experience any time soon.
“I’ve never done anything like this before. It’s not your average Saturday,” said Fleming, nominated for his honour by his colleagues.
“It was all a bit of a blur. I was focusing on holding my sign.
I was nominated after commendations from two mystery shoppers. But I don’t feel like I’ve done anything special. I was just doing my job.”
