John Higgins was knocked out of the BetVictor Welsh Open after a shock 4-1 defeat against Ken Doherty.
World No 5 Higgins had been in fine form at the Newport Centre, beating Gareth Allen 4-1 but could not replicate that display against his fellow former world champion.
His fellow Scot Stephen Maguire was in good form in a 4-2 win over Anthony Hamilton. Maguire will next face Matthew Stevens, a 4-2 winner over China’s Liang Wenbo.
Another Scot going through is Alan McManus who beat England’s Barry Hawkins in the evening session by 4-2.
Neil Robertson, the 2007 champion, enjoyed a routine 4-1 win over Ian Burns while Mark Allen beat Marco Fu 4-2.
And Indian Pankaj Advani also advanced after coming out on top in a seven-frame thriller late last night against Shaun Murphy.
